Customizing Forms

Have you customized your invoice and now want to duplicate that format to use for an estimate, statement, or other form? Instead of re-creating your template, use the following steps to create your new form.

Choose the invoice template you want to customize. If you are working with a defined invoice template, you will need to first make a duplicate of the template. (With defined or preset invoice templates, you are limited in what you can change. That is, you could add a logo and add your company name and address - but that's it. In contrast, when you work with a Duplicate of the invoice template, you can do much more in terms of content and design.)

Make a Duplicate of the Invoice Template

From the Lists menu, choose Templates. Then select (by highlighting) the invoice template you want to duplicate. Look for the Templates pull down menu button (bottom left-hand corner) and choose Duplicate.

(If you chose Intuit Service Invoice, the duplicate invoice will be added to the Invoice list as DUP: Intuit Service Invoice.)

Customize the Duplicate Template

Click on the duplicate template to call up the Customize Invoice dialog box. From the dialog box, you can click on the button to call up the Layout Designer.

At the Layout Designer, go to the Add pull down menu and choose Data Field. The Add Data Field dialog box will let you identify (by highlighting) which datum you want to insert. Click OK and the box for that data field will appear on the invoice design grid. Repeat to add more data fields.

Then move the boxes to the desired location on the template. When you are satisfied with the design, click OK on the Layout Designer, and OK on the Customize Invoice dialog box.

QuickBooks & eBay

Intuit announced that eBay has used the QuickBooks Software Development Kit to develop the eBay Accounting Assistant, a free application that lets eBay sellers automatically download eBay transactions into QuickBooks.

Before Accounting Assistant sellers who wanted to track how they were making and spending money had to either manually enter transactions into QuickBooks or lump a batch of transactions and track them as a single item.

The eBay Accounting Assistant software is available for Free to all subscribers to eBay stores, Selling Manager, Selling Manager Pro, and eBay Blackthorne products. It works with Pro, Premier or Enterprise Solutions 2002 and subsequent versions, Simple Start 2005 or QuickBooks online.

It can be downloaded at;
